Day 7 – 10/29 – On to Vegas

So…the alarm was set for 6:00.  We figured that would give us plenty of time to get to Canyonlands NP and Mesa Arch by sunrise.  What we didn’t plan on was how warm and comfortable the bed would be at that hour of the morning.  Maybe we’ll make it next time.

We arose at a descent hour, breakfasted, and hit the road.  Fortunately the sun was mostly with us so we got some good shots of rocks.  Here are three:

I’m sure some of you will be glad when we get down off the plateau.  Don’t hold your breath.  That’s why we’re on this trip.

Anyway, we arrived, checked into our hotel and headed down to the Bellagio to pick up our tickets for tonight’s show – Cirque du Soleil’s “O”.  Tickets in hand we wandered around a bit.  Everything Las Vegas does is over the top and the Bellagio tries to set the bar just a bit higher.  Their central court was ready for Halloween:

But my favorite was their Guinness certified “World’s Largest Chocolate Fountain”

Even the window displays in their toy store was over the top

After a light supper and the show we wandered down to the street to check out the fountain show.

Thus sated we headed back to the hotel and to bed with visions of water-sprites dancing in our heads.

Nite all,

R

  1. Somebody needs to comment on the contrast in this post between natures grandeur and the grandeur as defined by Las Vegas.

  2. Cheryl reminded me that I forgot to talk about O. It was AMAZING! The coordination between the floor (Is it a pool? Is it a hard floor? Will it be deep enough for the divers when they get there?) and the actors was a technical marvel. The acts were either breathtaking, laugh-out-loud joyful, or stunning in their beauty. I highly recommend a trip to Vegas to see this show.

  3. Wow, I’m stunned by the stark contrast between what Nature defines a grandeur and what man defines as grandeur as best seen in Las Vegas.
