NYC23 – Day 4 – 11/21/23 – Up on the Highline

We started the day with an authentic Diner breakfast. We took the A line downtown (south) to the TickTock Diner – and ate with locals, tourists, people arriving at Penn Station across the street, business types taking a meeting over breakfast.

Following breakfast we walked several blocks over to Bryant Park. Along the way we passed Macy’s – all decked out for tomorrow’s parade.

Bryant Park was the scene of a Christmas market. We wandered a bit, checking out the scene. Jesse tried to get onto the ice but it was an ‘advance tickets’ affair. So after some more window shopping we boarded the #7 to Hudson Yards.

Hudson Yards is a district on the west (Hudson River) side of the Manhattan, so named for the storage yard for subway cars. It is currently being developed into a business center but more importantly for us, it’s the north terminus of the High Line Walk.

Lunch at Chelsea Market

Skyline Cruise

Back on (sort of) dry land we headed back to the hotel where Nana and Papa rested while the younger crowd headed over to Times Square to hit the Nintendo Store(!).

The plan was to meet for dinner in the line for the famous Stardust diner but decided that it probably wasn’t worth the 2+ hour wait (besides, we had plans). So instead we met at Jollibee – a Filipino fast food chain serving great fried chicken and spagetti (which they were out of).

We wandered from there across Times Square,

and around the corner to the Minskoff theatre to see the Lion King.

Great show and wonderful seats and afterwards it was done raining so we wandered back to our hotel (and somehow, once again, neglected to stop for ice cream).

So that’s another day of food, fun, and 7+ miles of walking.

More tomorrow.
Till then,
