Day 11 – 5/31/2019 – Acadia National Park

The da started out fairl quickly. We had a lot of ground to cover today.

After breakfast we loaded the car and drove to Acadia National Park. We checked in at Thompson Island Information Center (Nana and Papa used our Lifetime Senior passes) to register both cars (Brooke had her own car, more on that later.)

Then it was off to Sand Beach, not to play in the sand, yet, but because that was a good parking place for our morning hike.

From there we walked down the trail to Thunder Hole, stopping along the way to capture great, dramatic shots of cliffs, the straight, the Islands, etc.

We eventually arrived at Thunder Hole. It was pretty underwhelming. It probably had to do with it being low tide. So we watched for a bit, took a few pics and headed back to the beach.

I should note that J’s fluorescent green shirt made him much easier to spot throughout the day.

Arriving back at the beach we grabbed the food and hit the beach for lunch.

S burned up some energy in the sand (no surprise there)
J hit the rocks (no surprise there)
Nana Papa hung out and watched the kids frolic.

Eventually lunch got eaten (in spite of the best efforts of a couple of gulls) and we packed up and headed for … Dessert!

Dessert was at the Jordan Pond House – famous for its popovers. Before we got down to serious eating, though, we walked out to Jordan Pond.

There were rocks so…

Back at the restaurant we ordered. J, Brooke, and I ordered Blueberry Lemonade. It came in a glass with ice and a small pitcher of simple syrup. Our waiter explained that the lemonade is unsweetened and we get to provide just the right amount of sweet for our taste. Pretty cool!

Then the Poppovers arrived. When you order them you order two. However, he only brings one. Explaining that they are best when they’re hot from the oven, so when we’re ready for more he will bring fresh ones.

They were tasty!

Next stop was Cadillac Mountain, the highest point in the park, and the highest coastal mountian on the eastern seaboard. You can’t quite see England from there, but you can see a fairly far distance.

By then it was time to say good by to Brooke. She had class this evening and tomorrow morning so we dropped her off at her car (We had parked it in the morning so we could all ride together.) and we parted company. She will rejoin us tomorrow afternoon so it wasn’t a tearful good by.

Then we headed back to the camp. We got there early enough for people to play for a bit on the flat rock (It’s still a bit cold to swim.) before dinner.

After dinner there was a bit of packing/organizing (Tomorrow morning we leave to make our way south.) and to bed.

Tomorrow the adventure continues.
