Day 2 – 4/22/22 – Around and About

We were up early (Hawaii time – late Mountain time) and took our time getting ready. Eventually hunger took hold and we headed out to find food.

Walking outside (when it’s not raining) gives us a chance to appreciate the native flora and fauna.

Spot the lizard
Marvel at the size of a banana blossom.
Hangin’ out in the sun
Apparently Cheryl got the memo.

Having breakfasted we decided a bit of a walk was in order.

We walked along the beach.
We clamored over some rocks.
We marveled at the tenacity of some trees to maintain a root system.
We watched some cliff jumpers.

I’m not going to say that this was a particularly strenuous hike (I’d rate it as moderate), but when we got back Cheryl declared that she needed a nap. So she returned to the room while I hung out by the pool and read.

When Cheryl woke up it was time to go exploring for lunch. We decided that what we really wanted to do was to return to the food truck lot in Koloa – so we did. She stuck with the chicken curry while I tried an ahi poke bowl. Both were excellent. For the second day in a row I neglected to take a photo of the setting, so you’ll just have to use your imagination.

Following lunch we dropped by the local grocery store to score a bit of chocolate and headed off for the next adventure – a drive up to Wailua Falls. It’s a generally pleasent drive…

This is the “Tree Tunnel”
Speaking of trees, these stunning trees can be spotted all over the area.

Eventually we arrived at the falls.

It was overcast today. They tell us that when the sun’s out the rainbow effect is stunning.

We returned just in time for the daily feeding of the black swan.

Notice the Koi. They were hoping to grab any leftovers.

Back at the room Randy decided that a nap was in order, so Cheryl headed out to grab some sun for a half-hour or so.

Then it was time to get ready for dinner. This evening we joined Tim and Diane at one of our favorite restaurants. They were busy enough that we could only get reservations at 4:30 – but that’s 8:30 Mountain time so it all worked out. I don’t make it a habit of posting lots of meal photos, but the appetizer – Lobster Deviled Eggs just begged for a snap.

Since dinner was so early we decided to extend it. On the way back to the resort we stopped by a neighborhood grocery store and scored a bit of wine (and some chocolate).

We did NOT kill all three bottles of wine. The Cab is for Tim, the Chard is for Diane and Cheryl and Randy worked on the Pino. But in truth there was much more talking than drinking going on.

Eventually it was time to head back to our room to rest, blog, and get ready for tomorrow.

Until then, nite all.
