On to the Adriatic, Day 12, 9/03/26, HOMEWARD

5:15 came around way too early.
But it’s easier to deal with if you bounce right out of bed instead of than laying there moaning.

So it was that by 6:00 we were down in the lobby munching on a breakfast sandwich and drinking some concoction that resembled some sort of fruit juice.

Then it was on to the taxi – 2 couples and all of our luggage – for the short trip around the bend…

…to the car park
where our luggage was loaded into a van (us too) and we were off to the airport.

The nice lady at the airport shepherded us to the correct ticket counter (even though this was by no means as large as a major European hub. I’d say it was closer in size to Portland or Reagan than Frankfort or Heathrow.

Anyway there was no line so our luggage was quickly tagged and dropped and we were thru security and past the duty free shops and hangin’ out at the gate.

The only thing of real interest was the artwork for the WC.

Taking off (in a largely empty plane) we were soon over the Alps.

Then we settled back, ate, slept, read, ate, slept, read, rinse and repeat until we landed (9 hours later) at Dulles airport in Washington DC.
United Airlines was impressed that we would be arriving at gate C14 and leaving from gate C23. What they failed to take in to account is that after arriving we would have to walk the length of the airport to get to passport control, then walk the length of the airport again to get to C23. We weren’t too upset – after sitting for 9 hours it felt good to walk for a change. But we were impressed by their optimism.

Our next flight was to Chicago where we had a longer layover (and a longer walk)

I always enjoy the tunnel.

We wandered the terminal looking for Thai food but the closest we could come to was Greek (I know, right?). So Gyros it was.

Sunset over O’Hare

Eventually we boarded and arrived in Boise 26 hours after our alarm went off this morning.
We fell into bed – too wired to sleep but eventually we rested.

Friday morning we took a visual assessment of our yard. It’s mainly there – It’s been raining here so it needs some work but there’s time for that.

The neighbor’s squash plant has dropped by to say ‘Hi.”

I’m finishing this on Sunday afternoon Sept 6.
We’re pretty much caught up on mail, email, urgent tasks, and such.
I’m over jet lag. Cheryl is still struggling with her circadian rhythm but it’s getting better.

So that’s the trip.
We’ll rest a bit and then it’s on to the next adventure.

Till then,
R
