Day 11 – June 29: Road Day

Today we traveled from Rugby North Dakota to Ashland Wisconsin. There’s not much to see except green: green fields, green forests… and water.  Lots and lots of lakes. We looked at the green and the lakes, marveled at how flat the land is,  (You can see forests that are miles away.), speculated on how glaciers […]

Day 10 – June 28: Bottineau

I was born there, in Bottineau.  We moved to Idaho when I was 3 and we only returned once to visit.  I was in Jr. High. So we thought it would be fun to include a “swing by” on our way east. I have to tell you, Bottineau gives all indications of being quite prosperous.

Day 9 – June 27: Montana, Montana

Leaving Missoula we discovered that our hotel was right across the street from “beer Mecca”. Next time we do this route we’ll plan an extra day in Missoula. Down the road we decided to take a quick stop at Pompey’s Pillar National Monument. The Native Americans called it “the place where the mountain lion lies”

Day 8 – June 26: On the road again

We started with a Birthday Breakfast for daughter Jennifer. Then it was time to hit the road.  The destination for the evening was Missoula Montana. We drove up the gorge, across to tri-cities, up to Spokane, a quick dash across the Idaho panhandle and into Montana. Other than the spectacular scenery (and the part between

Day 6 – June 24: Beaverton Day 1

The morning started with manual labor – a trip to the u-pick berry farm.  Berries are a couple of weeks late this year so blueberries weren’t on yet, but we did have fun with strawberries and raspberries.      In the afternoon the kids celebrated the 100 degree weather by taking to the kiddie pool that

Day 5 – June 23: Road to Beaverton

Moving day again. We struggled up out of our slumber (except for Spencer who is ALWAYS happy to wake up early) checked out and were on the road in relatively good time. We had one stop to make before getting to Jen and Brian’s place – The Evergreen Air and Space museum.   A couple

Day 4 – June 22: Newport

The first activity of the day was to move. While we were on the coast we really wanted to visit the Newport Aquarium. It’s smaller than some, but for our money we think it’s the best. So after breakfast we packed up and drove down the coast to Newport Arriving at about lunch time we

Day 3 – June 21: Beach Day

BEACH DAY! I should note that our AirBnB (even though it had a Tillamook address) was located just a short walk from the ocean on Cape Meares: Though we couldn’t see the ocean from the house we could clearly hear it. So we began the day with a walk to the beach. The kids ran,

Day 2 – June 20: Road to the Coast #2

From The Dalles we set out on our second leg to the coast. We arrived early for check-in, but not too early to check out the Tillamook cheese factory.    After lunch there we headed south of Tillamook to the Air Museum The largest wooden structure in the world, the hanger was used by the
