WC009 – 12/30/2022 – Sea Day

Noontime Location Check: N 07º 08′ 23.99″ – W 082º 09′ 47.98″

The day started out joining a few other hardy sailors on a leisurely stroll around the quarter-mile promenade deck.

16 laps later I was ready for room service breakfast on our veranda as we watched the endless pacific pass by below.

The first lecture today was about pirates and their history in the Caribbean.

It was followed by a presentation on the construction of the railroad thru the jungle in Costa Rica. After lunch we lazed about a bit by the pool, napped and attended the port talk on Costa Rica – tomorrow’s port.

In the “Do as I say, not as I do.” department – we cut class this evening. It was a lecture on the natural history of Costa Rica and we figured that since we’d already sat thru 2 sessions on basically that today we didn’t need a third. So we decided to have an early dinner (6:00) instead. And we ate in the restaurant rather than the caffeteria. It was an excellent meal and we managed to manage portion sizes appropriately. We also enjoyed chatting with the couple at the next table – a native Taiwanese couple now living in Los Angeles.

As we were getting ready for dinner I stepped out on the veranda for this sunset.

We skipped the restaurant dessert and stopped by the Living Room bar for a cookie before returning to our room, to find that Super and Ken hadn’t been there yet. So we went to the “living room” – the three-story atrium in the middle of the ship to read and listen to the string duo.

We returned to our room for a quick bio break before heading up to the Explorer’s Lounge for Bruce’s Brain Busters trivia. With a score of 7 out of 19 we were not happy, but the winners only scored 13 and the second place got 11 so we weren’t that far out of the running.

After a short break we headed down to the Theatre for a ventriloquist act.

He had an excellent act – parts of it were “pee your pants funny”.

Then it was back to the room and bed for Cheryl, Finish this for me.

They have turned on the “fireplaces” around the ship. Being a ship at sea this is not really fire. The effect is created using steam and light.

In our continuing series of shots of the ship, here’s the Theatre. It actually has 3 sections. The back 2 can be closed off to screen movies or opened to bring the maximum capacity to 480 (about half the total passengers).

  1. One more comment about the ventriloquist. Even his show was educational. We learned that DELTA is actually an acronym: Don’t Expect Luggage To Arrive, or Didn’t Even Leave The Airport.

  2. Thank you for doing this blog. The ship looks gorgeous and you sound as if you are mellowing out. God speed!
