It was a quiet day.
We’re in the part of the trip where staying on board during a port day has certain advantages.
Like: Going _back_ to the ‘ruins down to the foundations’ Olympia in 94 degree heat isn’t really a good investment.
And we’re storing up ‘health points’ for bigger things to come.
So after normal exercise time this morning we were showered and dressed by the time the room service guy arrived with our breakfast.
Sadly our veranda was in the direct sun. So we opted to eat inside.
Then it was off to the upper level of the Explorer’s lounge where we spent the morning reading and curating the hundreds of photos for yesterday’s post.
After lunch we watched the video of last evening’s talk.
The lecturer is our Resident Historian. He’s OLD! and energetic, and bombastic (as if ending a phrase with a shouted exclamation will help you remember it). It might be a good thing that this is a shorter trip.
After nap time we checked out the Port Talk for tomorrow.
At 5:00 we headed downstairs for the Viking Explorer Society reception. It’s for people who have sailed with Viking before – which on this voyage includes just over half the guests. But we got to sip champaign while the ‘future cruise’ lady talked and introduced the couple with the most Viking cruises (they got a bottle of champaign and flowers). They’re in double-digits so I doubt we’ll ever reach that lofty level. Then the captain, hotel manager, and cruise director joined her for a toast, and the vocal quartet sang, and we headed back to the room.
We had early dinner (We’ll watch today’s lecture on the history of Corfu tomorrow) so that we could make it to trivia. Our team did very well (19 of 28) considering that the questions were divided into thirds – Sports, Literature, and 1970s music.
Back in the room it was time to finish this and do a bit of reading.
Tomorrow our excursion call isn’t until 12:30 so we have the morning off.
Which isn’t to say that we won’t be up at 6:30.
The sun really starts beating down when it rises so getting as many laps in as possible before that happens is a plus.
