Off to Iceland, Day 8c, 08/10/26 Prince Christian Sound

As mentioned our afternoon was spent transiting the Prince Christian Sound

This narrow winding passage at the very tip of Greenland is much like an upen-ended fjord with high steep sides, high glaciers, and a few icebergs.

Here are some photos we took along the way.

There are two types of glacier. A normal glacier ends at the shoreline while a ‘hanging glacier’ ends above the shoreline. Every glacier we saw during the passage was a hanging glacier. It should be noted that hanging glaciers don’t normally calve (create icebergs).

Nearing the end of the sound the area was more low hills and the granite had a more polished surface where the glaciers had rubbed against it.
Coming out of the sound we were greeted by fog.

To that’s the sound.
It was an great afternoon with an overabundance of beautiful scenery.
