Kilpatrick 25: Toronto – Day 11 – 7/12/25 – Doin’ DC (Redux)

And so it continued.

This is “fly day” but our flights aren’t until later this afternoon so we took the opportunity to do a little more sightseeing.

First we had 10:00 tickets to the Air and Space Museum.
Since half of the museum was undergoing renovation this wasn’t the “wow experience” we had anticipated. We did see a few things, however.

Cheryl and I sat in on a planetarium show about the satellite we have orbiting the sun – close enough that it is within the sun’s atmosphere. Very interesting!

In short order the crew was ready to move on. The last item on people’s list was the Museum of American History.

We spent some time in Presidential History.

Next we spent time in the exhibits about wars and defending democracy.

After lunch the boys retired to the Spark Lab where they took the opportunity to be creative.

Then it was time.

We closed our Washington Adventure back at the hotel where we picked up our luggage and took the subway to the airport.
Once thru security (with plenty of time to spare) we found the Capital One Landing and spent a pleasant hour sampling their tapas offerings and creative cocktails.

Eventually it was time to head to the gates (our gates were next to each other) and wait.

And wait.

And wait.

WEATHER! was wreaking havoc with air transportation all around the east coast. Our flight was delayed 4 times.
Hunts eventually gave up and took the option to change their tickets for Sunday flights. (They booked a hotel nearby for the night – with the added benefit that the boys got to add Virginia to their list of states.)
Nana and Papa, however, decided to sit patiently and read until we finally boarded our flight at 12:30 am.

We slept off and on during the flight and landed in Salt Lake City at 3:00 am.
Near our gate was a Minute Suites – with a desk clerk. So we checked it out (and checked in).

It’s kind-of pricey. I’m not sure it would be right for us in an extended layover situation. But for a few hours in the middle of the night it was convenient.
The only improvement I’d suggest is if they included chamber pots.

Up by 6:30 this morning we were breakfasted and boarding our plane at 7:30.

So that’s the trip.
One more for the books (and the memories)
Now it’s on to detail planning for our next adventure.

Till then…
R

Note: as I finish this at 6:45 Sunday evening 7/13/25 we just got a text from Jen. They have landed in Seattle and are driving this evening home to Beaverton.
