DAY 2 – 5/22/10 – The adventure begins

The day started rather calmly. Spencer barely beat me up (I got up at 9:00) and I found S and Mommy hangin out on the back deck relaxing in the morning sun. We’ll, M was relaxing. S was poking things with a stick.

Shortly thereafter M left S telling me stories while she ducked out to dunkin’ for, well, donuts.

She returned and people gradually awoke and a trip to the beach was organized.

This is the point where I confess that I have a cold – a drippy nose, hackin’ up a lung, not feeling on top of the world cold. So it was decreed that I would skip the beach and head back to bed.

This was advantageous for a couple of reasons. First our bed here is AMAZING! And I could very happily spend several days lounging in its warm embrace. Seriously, thought, after I retired and before the crew left Rosemary, our hostess dropped by to check on thinks and answer any questions we might have. Kim says to call her “chatty Rosemary.” Apparently she significantly delayed the beach expedition. I’m truly sorry I missed that visit.

However, eventuallythey did hit the beach. It’s a small private beach for this subdivision with fine grained imported sand.

After the beach they returned and woke me up and we headed for the Foxwoods casino for lunch. Foxwoods is a massive complex with 3 large hotels and at least that many separate casinos. It took a while to find a restaurant but eventually we settled on…

The sugar factory.

The menu was a bit like Cheesecake Factory – but with large, incredible libations.

And interesting culinary delights

Yes, those are sliders.

We also noted, next door to the restaurant, a cake shop with interesting cakes on display.

Following lunch we headed over to the Pequot Meseum.

This museum is an amazing and well curated review of Pequot culture from pre-history thru current day.

The highlight of the visit was a large and well-done Pequot village

Then it was back to the “borrowed house” where Chris, Jesse and Spencer closeted themselves with a multi-player video game

and Mommy went to the store to load up on supplies for dinner/breakfast, etc.

She returned and whipped up a scrumptious meal of spaghetti, salad and bread. After supper the family settled in to watch “Frozen” while I did the dishes and updated the blog.

Now it’s 9:45 and time to wrastle the young’uns into bed. We have tentative plans for tomorrow – Mystic Seaport and Aquarium.

The adventure continues.
