Day 2 – 10/27/2019 – Out and about in Norman

The day started, slowly, with Nana, Papa, and the boys visiting a local coffee shop. Kim had left a gift card for this shop that will, very unfortunately, be closed by the time she gets back. So our task was to burn some credits from the card. We feasted on baked treats; sipped tea, hot chocolate, milk and juice; played a game of Candy Land and had a general good time.

Then we started for home. Along the way I took a detour to show Nana a house with skeletons climbing all over it. That was fine if not so scary. The real scary sight was a young lady in the midst of a dog fight, trying to separate her large black lab from another large black dog. We pulled over to the curb (though still in the traffic lane) and Cheryl hopped out to assist. Eventually they got the dogs separated and Cheryl threw the lab into the car with us while the college student actually laid on the other dog. About that time someone came running up and latched on to the other dog dragging it home. We bundled the dog owner into the car – she was visibly shaken, in tears, and ramped up on adrenaline – and drove her to her apartment. There she dropped off the dog and after depositing the boys back home with Chris we drove the young lady to her urgent care clinic to have some bites on her hand attended to. That took a while, but when she emerged she was sporting a sling to support her splinted hand (minor fracture). They also gave her a tetanus shot and prescribed penicillin. After a stop at Walgreens to pick up her prescription we dropped her at her apartment and returned home.

After a quick lunch we took off again, this time to visit the Sam Noble Natural History Museum.

This museum on the OU campus has great displays ranging from prehistoric

To native American

To “interesting”

Having avoided the pirate mastodon and escaped from the giant spider we needed sustenance. So we stopped for Ice Cream on the way home.

Jesse retired to his room to meet a friend for an on-line video game. Nana and Spencer checked out the back yard. Papa settled down to read (first a book, then the insides of his eyelids) while Chris worked on laundry and prep for the week ahead.

After that it was dinner and relaxing for everyone except for Papa and Jesse who put the finishing touches on a board game that Jesse is presenting in class on Monday. The game is based on a book that he read and looks pretty cool (if I do say so myself).

Then it was time to begin the “to bed” process (which takes a good long while).

Monday will see the kids back in school and daycare. Nana and Papa with assignments to complete and Chris back at work (it’s his “long teaching day”).

Let’s hope the day is a bit less adventurous.
