The first full day on board is a Port day in Athens.
We’ve been to Athens.
Actually, when we docked here on the World Cruise we opted to do independent exploration and spent our time wandering around the Plaka district, eating lunch with the locals, and watching the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknowns. If you want to see that post here’s the link:

That’s not to say that Athens doesn’t have great museums – Their archaeological museum is second to none and the new Acropolis museum is outstanding. If you get here, they should be on your “must do” list.
For us, this time was a time to relax and do 3 loads of laundry.
Which is not to say that the day didn’t start with exercising
And it should come as no surprise that said exercising was followed by a visit to Mamsen’s for waffles. (You’ve got to do something while the wash is on.)
We weren’t surprised that when we got to the laundry room for our floor all 4 machines were available, (it being the first day of the cruise and all) so we took 3 and headed for breakfast. When we got back we found a line of people waiting. Who washes clothes on the first day of a cruise? Turns out there are more people like us – where the first day of a cruise is not the first day of a trip.
Anyway we got the wash done and read/worked on the videos for yesterday’s post until lunch time.
After lunch we put on our swim suits and headed down to the spa where we enjoyed the jets in the heated pool and rebalanced our bones on the heated stone lounges.
Back in the room an hour+ later we read out on the veranda while our suits dried in the sun until it was time for the Port Talk for tomorrow’s stop in Santorini.
Our excursion combines a visit to the archaeological site at Aquateri with a stop to join several thousand of our fellow cruise travelers at Oia (We’ll be joined in port tomorrow by 3 other ships with a total of 6,700 passengers.)
The port talk put Cheryl to sleep so afterwards she took a nap while I typed this up.
It was at this point that we left port and headed south.
As we steamed out of the harbor I noticed us passing a ferry.
Next was a lecture by Captain Paul Eschenfelder on the history of Santorini.
After dinner we retired to our veranda to watch the sunset.
Then it was time to look at tomorrow’s schedule and prepare for the nextr adventure.
Should be fun.
