Day 1 – 3/6/2020 – Road day

The day started with the 4:00 AM alarm. Being all packed we were up, ready and out the door when the taxi arrived at 4:30.

Airport went smoothly

Cheryl even got her avocado toast bagel

In Salt Lake we met up with Bri, Tim, Diane and their friends Roy and Virginia.

We were significantly delayed in boarding because they were giving the plane a “safety cleaning” after it’s inbound flight. We were OK with that.

Actually we arrived in Cancun on time in spite of the delay.

We were met by the van driver from the resort who quickly shuttled us to Margaritaville.

Check-in process took a while. There was a bit of a mixup with rooms that they had to get straightened out. Also, our personal concierge went over the schedule for the week. Tim had made arrangements and reservations for activities, excursions, and meals throughout the week. I thought we’d be spending all week sitting on the beach sunning. HAH!

Then it was time for dinner. Reservations for this evening were at the steak house.

Dinner was great! Afterwards we wandered a bit, looking at what’s available in the main lobby building.

Eventually we ended up downstairs in a seldom-used corridor where a set of bookshelves…

Opened to reveal the “Library bar”
This intimate little room featured a jazz trio
And unique “turn of the century” themed drinks – I had an espresso martini.

The others left and headed for bed while Cheryl and I stayed to listen for a bit and chat with a couple from Indiana. It was a great way to cap an interesting day.

Tomorrow the fun begins in earnest. The “all inclusive” includes manicures and pedicures so we’re going to have some of said. Then we’ll get serious about spending time relaxing and reading and not thinking about what’s going on in the world.

So that’s the day.

More tomorrow.

Cheers,

R
